Manual Shaft & Parking Pawl
Inspection1. Inspect parking pawl for cracks or damage. Roller should turn freely.
2. Inspect parking pawl return spring for deformed ends or coils.
3. Inspect lock pawl shaft, lock spring, lock strut, lock lever, strut shaft or retaining pin for damage.
4. Inspect manual shaft for damaged threads and the flat for raised edges. File down any raised edges.
5. Inspect outside manual lever, inside detent lever and parking lock cam for damage.
6. Inspect manual detent spring for cracks and properly working roller.
7. Inspect manual valve link for damage or broken retainer lugs.
Assembly & Installation
1. Turn transmission with oil pan side up, then if removed, install manual shaft seal with lip facing inward into case using a 9/16 inch socket to seat the seal.
2. Install parking pawl and return spring with tooth toward inside of case and parking pawl return spring under pawl tooth with spring ends toward inside of case. Make sure spring ends locate in case slot.
3. Align parking pawl and return spring with case shaft bore, then install parking pawl shaft with tapered end first.
4. File off any burrs or raised edges off manual shaft that could damage the seal during installation of the shaft. Install manual shaft and inside detent lever assembly into case making sure shaft flats align with lever hole. Install nut on manual shaft and torque to specifications.
5. Install parking lock cam and torque bolts to specifications, then start strut into case.
6. Align parking lock strut and lever with parking shaft bore in case, making sure that strut arm is positioned between lever tangs. Complete installation of strut shaft and install retaining ring and parking lock spring.
7. Using a 3/8 inch rod, install new parking strut shaft cup plug, with open end out until it is flush with face.
8. Install manual detent roller and spring assembly and torque bolt to specifications. Check for proper operation of parking assembly.
