Fig. 6:

Fig. 7 Cylinder head & camshaft carrier bolt tightening sequence:

16. Loosen camshaft carrier and cylinder head bolts a little at a time in sequence shown in Fig. 6. Camshaft carrier and cylinder head bolts should only be removed when engine is cold.
17. Remove camshaft carrier assembly.
18. Remove cylinder head, intake manifold and exhaust manifold as an assembly.
19. Remove all carbon deposits from combustion chambers and valve ports. Check cylinder head for cracks in the exhaust ports and combustion chambers. Remove water jacket plugs and clean, if necessary.
20. Reverse procedure to install. Torque cylinder head bolts a little at a time in sequence shown in Fig. 7 to 18 ft. lbs. Tighten each bolt in the proper sequence an additional 180° in 60° increments.
21. After installation is completed (with the exception of brackets that install onto carrier), start engine and let engine idle until thermostat opens. Turn engine off and torque all bolts an additional 30 to 50° in the proper sequence.
