Dear Buick Owner:

General Motors has determined that certain 1982 Buick Skyhawk models equipped with 1.8L engine (VIN Code G) and California emission equipment, may be emitting oxides of nitrogen (NOx) pollutants in excess of California Emission Standards. This may be attributed to the exhaust gas recirculating (EGR) valve vacuum signal becoming inadequate with increased mileage.

To correct this condition, please contact your Buick dealer to arrange a service date to install an EGR harness modification kit, including a new tune-up label. In addition, the carburetor secondary vacuum break will be inspected. When required, secondary vacuum breaks found to be inoperative, will be replaced. This service will be performed for you at no charge.

Instructions for making this correction have been sent to your Buick dealer. The labor time required to make this modification is approximately 1-1/4 hours. Parts are available at your dealership. Please allow additional time for your dealer to process your vehicle.

The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please complete the postage paid owner reply card and return it to us.
