Model Year 1983

Bulletin No. 83-14A

File in Group 64A

Number 2A

Date Feb. '83
SUBJECT: Incorrect Labeling of ECMS On Some 1983 Skylarks and Centurys 1.8L ("O") and 2.5L ("R") Engines
NOTE: This Bulletin supersedes the original 83-14 for correct model usage and 2nd paragraph. Please discard 83-14 and replace it with 83-14A.

Recently, there has been an instance where 1983 ECM's have been mislabeled.

The mislabeling concerns 1983 ECM 1226100 being labeled as 1982-1/2 ECM 1225610. This mislabeling has occurred only on production units and not service units. There will be no driveability conditions noticed. In the event of ECM replacement, the PROM retainer from the 1983 ECM 1226100 will fit into the 1982-1/2 ECM 1225610.

15 DIGITS - ECM SIDE-RAIL LABEL:

The correct identity of the ECM can be determined by checking the manufacturing code on the side of the ECM. Refer to Figure 1 for an example of the manufacturing code. The correct information for each service number is:

1226100 773 (first 3 digits) 83 1.8L & 2.5L
