Alternator Belt - Damaged
Bulletin 84-6-21ADate July '84
Ref. No. 84-113-6
SUBJECT: ALTERNATOR BELT DAMAGE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1982-84 SKYLARK & CENTURYS EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L L-4 ENGINES (VIN CODE R)
NOTICE: This Bulletin supersedes Bulletin 84-6-21 dated March 1984 and reflects a new belt part number. Please discard original Bulletin and replace it with this one.
Several causes may contribute to, or result in, 2.5L engine alternator belt damage.
POWER STEERING PUMP & MOUNTING BRACKET ASSEMBLY:
1. Non air-conditioned cars use a flat washer under the inboard power steering bolt head (See Illustration). If the vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, this washer should be removed to prevent the bolt head from possible contact with the alternator belt.
2. The power steering pump pulley may have been pressed on too far and the alternator belt is rubbing on the back of the power steering pulley.
3. The alternator pulley may have a sharp edge or ridge in the "V" of the pulley.
If a new belt is required for one of these engines, order service part number 10034799.
NOTE: Replacement belts should be tensioned to 650 N (145 lbs.)
