Torque Converter Clutch - Shudder or Early Apply

Model Year 1983

Bulletin No. 83-193

File in Group 70

Number 35

Date Oct. '83
SUBJECT: [1][2]Torque Converter Clutch Shudder or Early Apply

MODELS AFFECTED: All 1983 LeSabres equipped with THM 250C (M31) Transmissions
Some 1983 LeSabres equipped with THM 250C (M31) transmissions with serial numbers between B3C03D and BCD12D, may experience a condition of [1][2]torque converter clutch shudder or early apply.

If this condition is encountered, the cause may be a restriction in the T.C.C. solenoid assembly which prevents it from exhausting. This causes the solenoid to function as though it were applied at all times. Therefore, the converter clutch will apply whenever the 2-3 shift is made and will not release until the transmission is downshifted to a lower gear.

To correct the condition, the T.C.C. solenoid must be replaced.
