Engine: Service and Repair












ENGINE ASSEMBLY
B-E-G SERIES

Remove or Disconnect
1. Hood

Important
^ For easier installation, scribe marks should be made at hood hinge to hood mating surface.

2. Negative battery cable
3. Engine coolant
4. Air cleaner
5. Fan blade, pulleys and belts
6. A/C compressor from mounting bracket, if equipped
7. Radiator and heater hoses from engine
8. Fan shroud assembly
9. E SERIES:
^ Cooler lines from radiator
^ Radiator
10. Power steering pump to mounting bracket bolts and position out of the way
11. Fuel line
12. Battery ground cable from engine
13. Vacuum hosing to all non-engine mounted components
14. Accelerator cable at carburetor
15. Engine wiring harness connector
16. Generator
17. Engine to body ground strap(s) at engine
18. Raise and suitably support car
19. Crossover pipe from exhaust manifolds
20. Flywheel cover and torque converter bolts

Important
^ Use a scribe to mark relationship of torque converter to flywheel.

21. Wiring at starter motor.
22. E SERIES:
^ Starter motor
^ Right output shaft support bolts
^ Install final drive support chain
^ Final drive to engine support bracket
23. Transmission to cylinder block attaching bolts
24. Front motor mount to frame bracket attaching bolts
25. Lower car and support the transmission
26. Install engine lift fixture
27. Engine Assembly

Inspect
^ For inspection and overhaul procedures, refer to Engine.

Install or Connect
1. Lower engine into car.
2. Transmission to cylinder block attaching bolts
3. Raise and suitably support car
4. Front motor to frame bracket attaching bolts
5. Torque converter bolts and flywheel cover
6. E SERIES:
^ Final drive to engine support bracket
^ Remove final drive support chain
^ Right output shaft support bolts
^ Starter motor

Important
When attaching the R.H. output shaft to the engine do not let the shaft hang. Assemble support bolts loosely. And by moving the flange end of the shaft up and down and back and forth, find the center location. Hold the shaft in this position and then torque support bolts.

7. Wiring at starter motor
8. Crossover pipe to exhaust manifold
9. Lower car.
10. Engine to body ground straps at engine
11. Generator
12. Engine wiring harness connector
13. Accelerator cable at carburetor
14. Vacuum hosing to all non-engine mounted components
15. Battery ground cable from engine
16. Fuel pump hoses
17. Power steering pump to mounting bracket bolts and secure.
18. E SERIES:
^ Radiator
^ Cooler lines at radiator
19. Fan shroud assembly
20. Radiator and heater hoses to engine
21. A/C compressor to mounting bracket, if equipped
22. Fan blade, pulleys and belts and adjust to proper tension
23. Engine oil as needed
24. Engine coolant
25. Air cleaner
26. Negative battery cable

Inspect
^ For proper completion of repair
^ For fluid and exhaust leaks
