Backpressure EGR Valves - New Identification Feature

Model Year 1983

Bulletin No. 83-71

File In Group 64A

Number 8

Date Feb., 83
SUBJECT: New Identification Feature For Backpressure EGR Valves Used On 1983 3.0L, V-6 (VIN Code E) 3.8L V-6 (VIN Code A), and 4.1L V-6 (VIN Code 4) Engines

Internal revisions have been made to backpressure EGR valves used on these engines. It is no longer possible to identify a positive or negative type valve by visual inspection of the diaphragm plate, as has been done in the past. The new EGR valve has the letter "N" (for negative backpressure), or (for positive backpressure) on the line below the model identification number, as shown. Service Procedures have not changed.
