Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators: Service and Repair
FULL SIZE MODELS EXC. RIVIERAOn these models, the speedometer and fuel gauge are removed from the instrument panel carrier as separate assemblies.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. If speedometer is to be removed, disconnect speedometer cable from transmission, cruise control transducer or union in engine compartment.
3. Pull steering column filler forward and remove headlamp switch knob as outlined previously.
4. Remove left (cluster) trim bezel, grasping bezel on both sides and pulling straight away from instrument panel.
5. Remove fuel gauge as follows:
a. Remove 4 screws securing gauge.
b. Withdraw gauge assembly from carrier, then remove bulb sockets and disconnect electrical connector from gauge.
6. Remove speedometer as follows:
a. Remove 4 screws securing speedometer.
b. Withdraw speedometer just far enough to gain access to cable and electrical connections.
c. Remove bulb sockets and disconnect cable from speedometer.
d. Remove screws securing speed sensor optic head and disconnect sensor from speedometer.
e. Remove speedometer.
7. Reverse procedure to install components.
