Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Service and Repair

1983 REGAL
1. Disconnect ground cable from battery and speedometer cable from transmission or cruise control transducer.
2. Remove headlamp switch knob and pull knob from rear defogger switch, if equipped.
3. Remove left (cluster) bezel, grasping bezel with both hands and pulling it straight away from instrument panel.
4. Remove 5 screws securing cluster lens, trip odometer knob and the lens assembly.
5. Remove clock and fuel gauge.
6. Remove speedometer retaining screws and withdraw speedometer just enough to gain access to Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).
7. Disconnect speedometer cable, remove screw securing VSS optic head, then withdraw speedometer head from cluster.
8. Remove steering column cover, then disconnect shift indicator cable from steering column.
9. Remove 4 cluster retaining screws and the cluster.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
