SUBJECT: Soft 1-2 Shift

Originally, the 1-2 servo seals were scarf cut teflon, as shown in figure.

Because of apparent leakage, and soft shift complaints, the servo piston was re-designed to accept lip type seals. When installing new lip type seals, be sure they are installed with lips facing away from each other. Lip type pistons can be installed in place of earlier teflon seal type piston. If soft shifts persist, an earlier model single piece THM 200 servo assembly can be installed.




Carefully measure dimension "A" (servo apply area). Select a single piece servo assembly with larger dimension "A". Recheck band adjustment and install early servo and early cover as a matched set.

"B" is the servo release area; early and late model pistons are the same size here.
