Control Arm: Service and Repair


Remove and replace one control arm at a time as axle assembly may slip sideways, making installation difficult.

1982---85 RIVIERA
1. Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Disconnect brake line at bracket on control arm.
3. Remove stabilizer bar. Refer to ``Stabilizer Bar, Replace.''
4. Remove rear wheel bearing and spindle. Refer to ``Rear Wheel Bearing And Spindle, Replace'' procedure as outlined in the Rear Axle, Propeller Shaft and Brakes Section.
5. If removing lefthand control arm, disconnect automatic level control link from control arm.
6. Using a suitable jack, support control arm.
7. Disconnect air hose from shock absorber, then detach shock absorber from upper and lower mountings.
8. Lower control arm until all spring tension is relieved, then remove spring and insulators.
9. Remove two bolts attaching control arm to frame and remove control arm, Fig. 4.
