A/T - 3254L Erratic Shift/Late Upshift/Starts 2nd or 3rd
TSB 85-10SUBJECT: 325-4L
COMPLAINT:
Erratic shifting, late upshifts, second gear or third gear starts. Harsh engagement drive and reverse.
CAUSE:
If while performing a valve body service to correct a stuck TV valve, a light blue rubber material is noted in the bottom pan, the cause may be the break-up of the flapper valve in the filter itself1
CORRECTION:
If this material is found, the unit should be removed and cleaned. What has happened is the filter's flapper valve has been sucked up into the transmission and ground up. Continual problems will occur unless the unit is thoroughly cleaned. When rebuilding, do not use the check valve filter, or else remove the check valve. The later check valve part # 8635971 is used in place of the filter with a check valve, which is no longer available. Refer to TSB 84-25.
