SUBJECT: FIRST AND SECOND GEAR SLIPS, BURNED INTERMEDIATE BAND AND/OR DIRECT CLUTCH
MODELS AFFECTED: 1983 THM 325-4L TRANSMISSIONS - ALL MODELS
Some 1983 THM 325-4L transmissions may exhibit one or more of the following conditions:
- Slipping in first and second gear.
- Slips only in second gear when hot.
- 3-2 Flare at approximately 30 MPH.
- Burned intermediate band and/or direct clutch.
The above conditions may be caused by an oversized 1-2 piston pin hole in the accumulator housing. See illustration. During second gear operation, the piston will apply, but oil may exhaust out the oversized pin hole, and apply pressure will be lost.
When servicing any 1983 THM 325-4L transmission for any of the above conditions, check the 1-2 accumulator piston pin for a slip fit. If the pin fits loose in the pin hole, the accumulator housing must be replaced. (Order part number 8635935.)
