Manual Lo Gear
In this range, the forward, lo and reverse and overrun clutches are applied and the intermediate band and converter clutch are released.Maximum downhill braking can be obtained at speeds below 30 mph with the shift selector in lo (1st) range.
Lo (1st) oil pressure, which is 140 psi, is the same as second (2nd) oil pressure because second (D2) oil is still present
Lo oil from the manual valve is directed to the following:
1. Lo and Detent check ball
2. 1-2 Shift Valve Train (Lo 1st/Detent Valve)
3. Lo and Reverse check ball
4. Lo and Reverse Overrun Clutch
Lo oil from the manual valve flows to the lo 1st/detent valve and combines with M.T.V. down and 1-2 throttle valve spring force to close the 1-2 shift valve at speeds below approximately 30 mph. This permits second oil to exhaust, releasing the intermediate band, and also allows lo oil to travel to the lo overrun clutch valve. The lo overrun clutch valve regulates lo oil pressure down to about 30 psi and then directs this regulated oil to the lo/reverse overrun clutch, resulting in the clutch being applied.
