SUBJECT: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF REAR COMPARTMENT LID HINGE AND TORQUE RODS
MODELS AFFECTED: 1983 Riverias Built After January, 1983
When replacing rear compartment lid hinges and/or torque rods the following procedure may be used:
To Remove:
1. Open rear compartment lid and tape off edges of the right and left quarter panels, rear compartment from panel and deck lid to prevent paint damage.
2. Remove rear compartment lid and rear compartment front panel as described in the Fisher Body Service Manual Section 7.
NOTICE: Rear compartment front panel removal may be difficult due to the usage of backlite sealer, also care must be taken if the vehicle is equipped with a vinyl top.

3. Using lock jaw pliers as illustrated in Figure 2, apply a downward force and disengage torque rod from hinge link arm (Figure 3). Torque rod unwinds forward.
4. Unbolt and remove hinge assemblies, also any painting procedure required (hinges, rod, body, and deck lid areas) must be performed at this time.
To Install:
1. Bolt hinge assemblies in place.
a. Prop hinge in full-up position.
b. Install torque rod in lower output notch.
c. Using locking jaw pliers (Figure 2) position other end of torque rod as shown in Figure 3.
d. Remove prop installed in "a" above.

e. Lube hinge assemblies as indicated by shaded areas in Figure 4.
2. Replace rear compartment lid.

3. Check for proper operation and adjust torque rod if necessary
NOTICE: This procedure may be used to change past model "E" cars with gas support operated lid. However, it will require a rework and painting of the rear compartment front panel hinge cut-out area. A template for this purpose is included with this Service Bulletin.
4. Replace rear compartment front panel.
