SUBJECT: TRANSMISSION OIL PAN LEAKS

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL 1982 AND 1983 THM 325-4L TRANSMISSIONS - ALL MODELS
Some 1982 and 1983 THM 325-4L transmissions may exhibit a transmission oil pan leak which is caused by an interference between the accumulator housing and the transmission oil pan.

FIGURE 1 - NEW DESIGN:

Beginning late in March, 1983, all THM 325-4L transmissions were produced using a new accumulator housing (Figure #1) to correct the interference condition.

FIGURE 2 - OLD DESIGN:

When servicing any 1982 or 1983 THM 325-4L transmission for an oil pan leak, inspect for interference with the accumulator housing (Figure #2). If an interference exists with the accumulator housing, remove it and grind, or file a portion of the casting boss (Figure #2 Inset). When removing this material, use caution to avoid damaging the cup plug. Remove only a minimum amount of material to eliminate the interference with the transmission oil pan.
