SUBJECT: DOOR INSIDE LOCKING KNOB FALLING OFF THE DOOR INSIDE LOCKING ROD
MODELS AFFECTED: 1982-84 CENTURY AND SKYHAWK 1980-84 SKYLARK

FIGURE 1 - LOCKING ROD:
This condition has three possible causes (see Figure 1).
1. The locking tongs on the locking knob are not molded properly and, therefore, do not hold the locking rod.
2. The hole in the back side of the locking knob that receives the end of the locking rod has a mold that is too shallow.. Therefore, the locking rod does not seat properly into the locking tongs.
3. The end of the locking rod is too long creating the same condition as a shallow hole.
To correct the condition due to the locking tongs not molded properly (1) and not holding the locking rod, replace the knob with a new one.
To correct the condition to (2) the shallow hole or (3) the long ended locking rod, remove material from the end of the rod to bring the specified dimension in Figure 1 to 3/8".
