Ignition Switch - Unworkable in Accessory Position

SUBJECT: IGNITION SWITCH AND/OR SHIFT LEVER ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS WITH CONSOLE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1984 SKYHAWK, SKYLARK AND CENTURY
Condition:
The ignition switch may become unworkable in the accessory position, and/or the shift lever will not move when excessive shift handle button loads are applied.
Cause:
The ignition switch becomes unworkable when excessive shift handle button loads are applied while the ignition switch is in the accessory position, and the park lock cable slider is forced past the ignition switch inhibitor pin.
Correction:
Replace ignition switch assembly and park lock cable assembly using the following part numbers.
NOTICE: The ignition switches can be identified by a beige colored park lock inhibitor body attached to the ignition switch assembly.
