A/T - 440T4 Overheating Of Torque Converter

TSB: 87-26 (Apr)

SUBJECT: 440 T4

PROBLEM:
Overheating of the torque converter and/or the plastic thrust washers on the drive sprocket have melted.

SOLUTION

1. Check cooler for restriction.

2. Check the converter regulator valve in the valve body. If it is stuck, it may cause a low pressure condition in the torque converter.

Sometimes the keeper (retainer) that holds the converter regulator valve lineup in the valve body will break, and a portion of it will flow into the valve and jam it.

Always check this keeper when rebuilding, and replace it if it shows any wear.
