SUBJECT: Replacing left axle seal.

When replacing the left axle seal, be careful not to damage the thrust bearing that is located between the channel cover and the 4th clutch hub. The thrust bearing actually snaps into the same bore the left axle seal is pressed into.

Attempting to pull the seal out from the center, may result in the tool being used catching a portion of the thrust bearing and damaging it.




It is recommended to pull the seal out from the outside diameter with a hammer and dull-bladed chisel-type tool.

If damage to the thrust bearing has occurred, the result may be noises when the engine is running in all gears, except 4th. The 4th clutch-hub-to-channel-plate thrust bearing part number is 8644665.
