SUBJECT: RAPPING NOISE DUE TO ENGINE MOUNT STRUT GROUNDING TO MOUNTING BRACKET
MODELS AFFECTED: 1984 CENTURY WITH V-6 DIESEL (VIN CODE T)
A condition of a light rapping noise or resonance my be encountered with a V-6 diesel engine at idle or coast down. This may be due to a grounding interference between the aluminum strut and the welded reinforcement on the mounting bracket.
STRUT BRACKET LOCATION:
To correct this condition, remove the strut from the mounting bracket. Grind as necessary the reinforcement metal on the engine bracket to obtain a mininum of 2.38 mm (3/32") clearance when the strut is reinstalled. See illustration.
