Roller Clutch & Rear Carrier Assembly






1. Remove roller clutch race and inspect race and spline for scoring or wear, see image.

2. Remove roller clutch assembly and inspect roller bearings, cage and springs for damage or wear, see image above step 1.

3. Remove and inspect rear carrier to roller clutch thrust washer for scoring or excessive wear, see image above step 1.

4. Inspect tanged rear carrier to rear internal gear thrust washer for scoring or distorted tangs.

5. Inspect carrier and roller clutch cam ramps for damage.

6. Inspect planet pinions for damage, rough bearings or wear. Some models have a two pinion carrier with pinions directly opposite each other.





7. Check pinion endplay which should be 0.009-0.027 inch (0.24-0.69 mm), see image.








8. Install roller clutch to rear carrier thrust washer, see first image, then install rollers which may have come out of roller cage by compressing spring and inserting roller from outer edge, see second image.








9. Install roller clutch assembly into roller clutch cam, see first image, then install roller clutch race with spline side out and rotate clutch race counterclockwise into place, see second image.

10. Install 4 tanged rear carrier to rear internal thrust washer. Align tangs into slots of rear carrier and retain with petrolatum.





11. Install roller clutch and rear carrier assembly into rear internal gear, see image.
