Remove or Disconnect

Tools Required:
J-26996 Screen Cover
J-21654 Converter Holding Tool

1. Drain cooling system.
2. Air cleaner. Install cover screen J-26996.
3. Mark hood hinges and remove hood.
4. Negative battery cables
5. Ground wires at inner fender panel
6. Engine ground strap, right head to cowl
7. Radiator hoses
8. Cooler lines
9. Heater hoses
10. Vacuum hoses
11. Power steering pump hoses at power steering gear
12. (Air conditioning) Compressor with brackets and hoses attached
13. Fuel hose from fuel pump and wiring
14. Hairpin clip at bellcrank
15. Throttle and T.V. cables from intake manifold brackets. Position cables away from engine.
16. Upper radiator support and radiator
17. Raise and support car.
18. Exhaust pipes at manifold
19. Torque converter cover and three bolts holding converter to flywheel
20. Engine mount bolts or nuts
21. Three transmission to engine bolts on the right side
22. Starter wires and starter
23. Lower car.
24. Secure lift chain to engine.
25. Place board on top of jack and slightly raise transmission.
26. Three transmission to engine bolts on the left
27. Lift out engine.
Important
^ If car is to be moved, install converter holding tool J-21654, and support transmission with chain support.

Install or Connect
1. Fasten lift chain to engine.
2. Engine into place
3. Locate engine dowels into transmission and position through bolts into mounts and tighten.
4. Three transmission to engine bolts on the left
5. Remove support chains and jack.
6. Raise and support car.
7. Three transmission to engine bolts on the right side
8. Starter wires
9. Three converter to flywheel and torque converter cover bolts to 54 N.m (40 lbs. ft.)
10. Exhaust pipes
11. Lower car.
12. Radiator and upper radiator support
13. Radiator hoses
14. Cooler lines
15. Heater hoses
16. Vacuum hoses
17. Power steering pump hoses at pump
18. Power steering hose bracket to engine
19. (Air conditioning) A/C compressor
20. Fuel hose to fuel pump and wiring
21. Move bellcrank and cables to intake manifold
22. Bellcrank
23. Throttle rod to bellcrank
24. Breather pipes
25. Fuel return line to pump
26. Remove screen cover J-26996.
27. Air cleaner
28. Align hood with scribe marks.
29. Battery cables and ground wires
30. Fill radiator.
31. Fill crankcase.

Inspect
