Speedometer - Rattle Noise
Bulletin 84-10-23Date Sept. '84
Ref.No. 84-302-10
SUBJECT: RATTLE IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS
MODELS AFFECTED: 1984 REGALS AND RIVIERAS
1984 BUICK G AND E CAR INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS:
Cause: The speedometer frame is rubber mounted for noise reduction. This can allow the speedometer dial flange to make intermittent contact with the plastic retainer, generating a rattling noise. This is especially true when the speedometer neck is exposed to speedometer cable lateral stress. See illustration.
Field Fix: In the event a customer comments on a rattle, cut off a piece of rubber gasket (1-3/8" long, 1/2" wide) and attach it with adhesive to the area shown in the illustration.
Production Fix: Effective 4/16/84, the addition of a rubber channel gasket to the speedometer dial flange was made. Both procedures will eliminate the rattle..
