Control Arm: Service and Repair


Remove and replace one control arm at a time as axle assembly may slip sideways, making installation difficult.

Upper Control Arms
1. Support vehicle at frame and rear axle.
2. Remove control arm mount bolts from frame and axle housing attachments, Fig. 2.
3. Reverse procedure to install. Control arm bolts must be tightened with vehicle at curb height.
Lower Control Arm
Lower control arms may be removed and replaced using the ``Upper Control Arms'' procedure. However, it may be necessary to reposition the jack farther forward under carrier to aid in removing rear mount bolt. Also, a brass drift may be needed to remove mount bolts.
