Power Steering Gear Replace

1. Disconnect pressure and return lines from gear and plug all lines and openings.
2. Remove stone shield, if equipped.
3. Remove pinch bolt, then flex coupling from gear.
4. Raise and support vehicle.
5. On all models except 1983-85 Eldorado and Seville, remove pitman arm nut and lock washer, then using a suitable puller remove pitman arm from steering gear.
6. Remove steering gear to side rail retaining bolts, then steering gear.
7. On 1983-85 Eldorado and Seville, remove pitman arm from steering shaft.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following torque values: steering gear to side rail retaining bolts, 70 ft. lbs.; pitman arm to pitman shaft nut, 185 ft. lbs.; flex coupling pinch bolt, 30 ft. lbs.; steering gear pressure lines, 20 ft. lbs.
