A/T - 3254L Mispositioned Sleeve, Blocked Passages
TSB 86-18 (Apr)SUBJECT: THM 325 4L
PROBLEM:
No lock-up, or very high lock-up speeds. Poor Cooler Flow, or Slow Converter Fill Poor Upper Lube Overheating Converter and Transmission No Overrun Clutch Application - No Engine Braking
One or more of the above problems could be caused by the drive sprocket support. The steel sleeve on the sprocket end can move -- resulting in blocked passages, as in Figure 1.
Do not attempt to reposition the sleeve. Replacement sleeves are not available, and the entire support must be replaced.
Sleeve positioning can be checked as shown with figures 1 and 2.
Figure 1 - shows a support with the sleeve in too deeply, which occurs most often. At point "A" there is a step to a smaller diameter. The end of the sleeve should be positioned flush with the step at "A". The distance from the end of the sleeve at "A", and the face of the bore at "B" should be 15/32" to 1/2".
Figure 2 - When the sleeve is positioned properly:
The converter clutch release hole will be partially blocked by the sleeve.
The overrun clutch hole in the support is off-center, with the hole in the sleeve.
The sleeve must be in far enough for the lube undercut to be open for oil flow.
