Torque Converter Clutch Diagnosis

The converter clutch assembly, see image, provides a direct mechanical coupling of the engine to the transmission. The application and release of the converter clutch is determined b a series of controls and drive range section. Before assuming that converter clutch problems are electrical in nature, mechanical checks such as linkage adjustments and oil level should be performed and corrected, if necessary.
