SUBJECT: FALSE SETTING OF TROUBLE CODE 42
MODELS AFFECTED: 1984 CENTURY AND SKYLARK W/2.8L (VIN CODES X OR Z)
Some of the above vehicles may experience a false trouble Code 42. The false code is detected in two (2) ways - either a hard service engine soon light after an ignition check (ignition off and back on within five (5) seconds), or no service engine soon light but malfunction Code 42 stored in memory..
Diode Jumper Assembly:
This condition has not occurred on voltmeter equipped vehicles. To alleviate, connect P/N 12047479 (diode jumper assembly) as shown in attached graphics.
