SUBJECT: OIL PAN BOLT TORQUE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 CENTURY, REGALS, LESABRES AND ELECTRAS EQUIPPED WITH 3.L V-6 (VIN CODE E) AND 3.8L (VIN CODES A, 3 & 9) ENGINES
The oil pan bolt torque specifications for the above engines on pages 6A5-23 of the 1985 Chassis Service Manual are in error. It should be 10 N-m (88 in. lbs.). If these bolts are over torqued it can cause damage to the dimples in the oil pan and over stretch the gasket causing it to split.
