Bulletin 85-10-8A

Date Dec. '84

Ref. No. 84-321-10
SUBJECT: FRONT END NOISE DURING ACCELERATION AND/OR BRAKING

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 ELECTRA WITH 3.0L (LK9) AND 3.8L MFI (LN3) ENGINES

Notice: This bulletin supersedes 85-10-8 dated October 1984. Note in Step 3 changed. Please discard original bulletin and replace it with this one.

A "squeak, crunch or popping" noise may be experienced on some early Electras during acceleration and braking. The condition is usually a single pop.

Follow the recommendations shown in 1983 Dealer Service Bulletin #83-218 in the Body Section along with the following procedures:

CRADLE MOUNT:

1. Remove cradle mounts
Note: Do not disassemble more than two mounts at a time in order to maintain cradle and front end alignment.

2. Squeeze locating guide on the lower cushions slightly, per illustration, in a vise to cause a slight interference fit in the cradle. Rework all six mounts in this manner.

3. Reinstall mounts in the same locations from which they were removed.
Note: Soap or a soap and water solution may be required to aid installation of top cushion onto lower cushion.

4. Torque cradle mounts to 103 N-m.
