SUBJECT: RATTLE, CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL AREA
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 ELECTRA AND PARK AVENUE
A rattle, coming from the instrument panel ash tray area with the ash tray open, may be caused by the "snuffer" lid (spring loaded ash tray lid) rattling against the lower instrument panel. This lid has been eliminated on current cars, but should not be removed as a service correction for rattling.
Two pieces of sticky-back foam material may be fabricated and installed on top of the two "snuffer" ribbed areas. Each insulator should be 20 by 42 mm and about 3 mm thick (approximately .75 by 1.62 inches and .12 inches thick). Install each insulator along top of rib and position as close to start of rib and passenger compartment as possible.
