SUBJECT: 3.OL AND 3.8L MFI V6 ENGINE EMISSIONS
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 REGAL SOMERSET EQUIPPED WITH 3.OL V6 ENGINE (VIN CODE L) AND FEDERAL EMISSIONS 1985 CENTURY EQUIPPED WITH 3.8L V6 ENGINE (VIN CODE 3) AND FEDERAL EMISSIONS 1985 ELECTRA/PARK AVENUE EQUIPPED WITH 3.8L V-6 ENGINE (VIN CODE 3) AND FEDERAL EMISSIONS
CONDITION
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) testing has shown that some 1985 Buick Regal Somerset, Century, and Electra/Park Avenue models equipped with RPO LN7 3.OL engine (VIN Code L) or RPO LN3 3.8L engine (VIN Code 3) and Federal Emissions may be emitting pollutants in excess of the Federal Emission Standards. This condition could cause a vehicle to fail an emission inspection test, if required under state or local law.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Involved are certain 1985 Regal Somerset, Century and Electra/Park Avenue model vehicles within the following VIN breakpoints:
NOTICE: California Emissions vehicles are not involved.
All vehicles listed on the dealer printout will require correction. Should a question arise concerning the involvement of a specific vehicle(s) in this campaign, option codes may be read from the Service Parts Identification Label. Also dealers should access the Vehicle Information Service System (V.I.S.S.) for verification.
DEALER ACTION
Dealers are to replace the PROM assembly in the Electronic Control Module (ECM) on vehicles involved, per the Technical Procedure Section of this bulletin.
