SUBJECT: KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM (AX3 OPTION)
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 ELECTRA
Several questions concerning the Keyless Entry System have been received. The information provided herein should help answer these questions.
Currently, a card identifying the permanent entry code is shipped in the glove box however, if the car is received shy the card or the card is later lost by the owner, a replacement card may be obtained. The dealer should contact their District Service Manager or zone office and provide the entry code which can be found on a label on the module mounted in the trunk above the right rear wheel well. See Figure 2 Page "C" Car-525, Section 8 in the 1985 Chassis Service Manual. The label is on the outboard side of the module for security reasons. Permanent entry code cards are treated the same as key codes and must be requested by the zone.
The keyless entry permanent five digit code can be altered to a temporary code by entering the five-digit permanent code, then pressing keypad number 5/6 and finally entering a new five-digit temporary code as desired. The system will remember the temporary code until changed or a power failure or battery disconnect occurs. The system then reverts back to the "permanent" code. The permanent code will always unlock the car even when a temporary code is available.
To unlock the driver door enter the five-digit code on the keypad. To unlock all doors the operator must press keypad number 1/2 immediately after entering the five-digit code. To release the deck lid press keypad number 3/4 immediately after entering the five-digit code. To unlock all doors and release the deck lid 1/2 and 3/4 may be entered in any order after entering the five-digit code.
