Heating and Air Conditioning: Description and Operation

Electronic Touch Climate Control Panel:

This system is a completely electrically controlled system that automatically controls in-vehicle temperatures regardless of outside temperature changes.

Temperature changes are accomplished by touching the control panel surface at the desired mode or temperature position, Fig. 1. An LED (Light Emitting Diode) illuminates at each position, indicating the mode and temperature in operation.

Electric motor driven actuators, controlled by the control panel, move each mode door and temperature door to the correct position, releasing properly heated or cooled air from the proper outlets.

If a mode door or temperature door does not move to its proper position, the temperature LED (for the temperature door or mode door) will flash off and on continuously. Touching the panel either at the position where the LED is flashing or at any other position will cause the control center to try again to position the mode and temperature doors into their proper positions. If this cannot be achieved within 20-30 seconds, the temperature LEDs will again begin to flash, and the control center will shut "OFF" current to the affected motor(s) to prevent damage.

The extreme temperature position of 65 degrees F will drive the temperature door to maximum cold, and the extreme temperature position of 85 degrees F will drive the temperature door to maximum heat.
