SUBJECT: Wire Wheel Covers
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 Electra
A change is being made, beginning with production of the 1985 Electra, which affects the retention system of this cover. The cover is retained by the center bolt and bracket with tensioner arms on the bracket (Figure 1 and 2). Do not force or use hammer or mallet to install or remove this cover.
It will be necessary to install the tensioner arms (anti-rotational clips) prior to the installation of the wheel cover (Assembly Instructions).
If lock brackets on wheels are gold color, the brackets shipped in the trunk package (silver color) must be installed per instructions (Illustration I). Center stud on silver lock bracket is longer. The gold color lock brackets are to be discarded.

FIGURE 2:
1. Install anti-rotation clips into lock brackets-See Anti-rotation clip installation on back of this sheet. These clips must be installed for proper retention of cover to wheel.
2. Remove 3 of the 5 standard lug nuts to match pattern of lock bracket. See Fig. 1 for steps 2 thru 7.
3. Place lock bracket over 3 mounting studs.
4. Secure wheel and the lock bracket with special lug nuts as shown. Tighten all nuts to torque specified in Owners Manual
5. Place wheel cover on wheel. Align valve hole in wheel cover with valve on wheel. Push wheel cover onto wheel by hand. Do not use hammer or mallet to install cover. 6.Tighten locknut by turning wrench clockwise until nut bottoms out. This will secure cover.
7. Snap medallion into center of cover.
8. Store wrench in glove box.
9. To service or repair, follow wire wheel cover removal instructions.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
FOR INSTALLATON OF ANTI-ROTATION CLIPS TO FACTORY MOUNTED BRACKETS
CAUTION: ANTI-ROTATION SPRING CLIPS MUST BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF WHEEL COVER.
Anti-rotation clips should be installed into flat areas of lock brackets. (FIG. 3)
Insert leading tab of anti-rotaion clip into long slot on bracket. (SEE ARROW IN FIG. 4)
ALIGN CLIPS:
With leading tab inserted swing anti-rotation clip in direction of arrow. (TOWARD WHEEL) Snap tab must align with elongated holes on bracket. Insert snap tabs by pushing on base of anti-rotation clip. (SEE ARROW IN FIG. 5 & 6) Repeat instructions for each of the 3 clips on all 4 of the wheels. After all clips are installed securely, proceed to STEP 2.
LOCKING BRACKET & WHEEL STUD:
CAUTION
CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO INSURE PROPER INSTALLATION OF LOCK BRACKET TO WHEEL ASEMBLY
1. PLACE LOCK BRACKET OVER THREE (3) MOUNTING STUDS.
2. START THREE (3) SPECIAL FLANGED LUG NUTS OVER LOCK BRACKET.
3. PULL BRACKET AWAY FROM WHEEL AND TIGHT TO FLANGES ON LUG NUTS. (SEE FIGURE 7)
4. COMPLETE TIGHTENING LUG NUTS & TORQUE TO SPECIFICATION.
5. INSPECT INSTALLATION TO BE SURE THAT LUG NUTS ARE CENTRAL IN HOLES OF LOCK BRACKET LEGS. (SEE FIGURE 8)
