Bulletin: 89-7-7

Date: May, '90

Ref. No.: 89-286-7

Corp. Ref. No.: 937205

SUBJECT: SHIFTABILITY CONCERNS ON ISUZU 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSAXLE - (NEW SHIFTER BOOT)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1983 - 89 SKYHAWK WITH 5-SPEED ISUZU TRANSAXLE

CONDITION:

Owners of some 1983-89 Skyhawks equipped with Isuzu 5-speed manual transaxles (RPO MK7, and MY7) may comment about one or more of the following:

1. Transaxle hopping out of gear.
2. Higher than normal shift efforts.
3. Shifter rattle or buzz.

These conditions may be more apparent during cold weather operation.

CAUSE:

Any of these conditions may be the result of the shift boot being to stiff.

CORRECTION:

To repair any of the above conditions, a new shifter boot should be installed (P/N 22553175). The new shift boot is made of a more pliable material.

If the new boot does not satisfactorily fix the customer concern, consult previous bulletins on these subjects.

SERVICE PARTS:

The new boot will only back service vehicles which are equipped with a boot identical to the one shown in Figure 1.
