The glove box striker assembly on some 1985-86 Centurys may lose adjustment causing the glove box door not to close completely.
To correct this condition, the following procedure may be used:
STEP 1 - GLOVE BOX STRIKER ASSEMBLY:
1. Remove complete striker assembly from glove box (Step one).
STEP 2 - STRIKE PLATE REMOVAL FROM RETAINER:
2. Using a Phillips screw driver, rotate the adjusting screw until the striker plate can be removed from the retainer (Step 2).
3. Leave screw in retainer and set retainer aside.
STEP 4 - STRIKER PLATE'S SIXTH CROSSBAR:
4. Place striker plate on flat work surface. Using a center punch, indent the sixth crossbar (only) from the end of the plate to a depth of 1 mm (Step 4).
STEP 5 - INSTALLATION OF STRIKER TO RETAINER:
5. Reinstall striker plate to retainer, holding retainer in position as pictured (Step 5), plate the left edge of the striker plate under the left side boss of retainer making sure that the end of the striker plate is 3 mm from the end of the retainer. Line up slots in striker with ribs of screw and snap right side of striker plate down into right side boss of retainer.
6. Reinstall striker assembly into glove box and adjust for proper fit.
