Hood Latch - High Efforts to Release

Bulletin 86-2-2

Date June, '86

Ref.No. 86-132-2
SUBJECT: HIGH EFFORTS TO RELEASE HOOD LATCH

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-86 BUICK CENTURYS

Conditions contributing to high efforts to release hood latches on 1985-86 Buick Centurys can be corrected by making sure that the components are properly adjusted and lubricated.

A properly adjusted hood will be flush with the fenders and front panel at the outboard corners and approximately 1-3 mm (.040-.118") higher than the front panel at the centerline of hood.

FIGURE 1:

Adjusting the hood striker bolt length 43-45 mm (1.7-1.8") as shown in Figure 1, will give the proper height adjustment in most cases.

Adjusting the front outboard hood bumpers so the hood is flush with the fender surface will give the proper height adjustment at the fenders.

FIGURE 2:

The proper lubrication points are as indicated in Figure 2. Use GM Part Number 1052349 or equivalent when lubricating the latch striker, latch plate components and secondary hood latch pivot.
