Mode Lever Setting
OFF
The A/C compressor and the fan blower motor will not operate in this mode selection, but the system will, however, still try to reach the ``guide'' selection temperature range selected. To reach a desired temperature will take more time than in other modes due to non-operation of the fan blower motor. If a 70 degrees ``guide'' temperature is set and outside temperature is cold, the vehicle will eventually reach the 70 degrees temperature range. If outside temperature is hot, the vehicle will be cooled by opening the recirculation door to outside air and closing the temperature door to prevent heat from entering. The system can only cool the vehicle to around outside air temperature, because in this position the fan blower motor and A/C compressor will not operate.
ECONOMY
In this setting the system will not let the A/C compressor operate. It will adjust to the ``guide'' temperature range that has been selected. It cannot, however, cool the vehicle cooler than outside temperature due to the A/C compressor not operating. This setting is automatic because it determines fan blower speed and air outlet positions.
AUTO LO
In this setting the system will let the fan blower operate only in a fixed low speed. This setting also positions the recirculation door open so all air enters the system from the outside. This is done to reduce the noise level in the vehicle to a minimum while the system is operating. This setting is considered automatic because it will automatically adjust vehicle temperature to the ``guide'' temperature range selected. It will also determine which outlets the air will enter.
AUTO NORM
In this setting everything is controlled automatically. The system will adjust to the ``guide'' temperature range selected and will remain there, maintaining it until the temperature selected is changed. This setting has the capability of any fan blower speed, any air inlet position, and any air outlet position to reach and maintain the selected temperature range.
AUTO HI
With this setting the system will let the fan blower operate only in a fixed high speed. This setting is used primarily to rapidly cool the vehicle to the ``guide'' temperature selected.
BI-LEVEL
In this setting the system will allow air to enter the vehicle through the heater and A/C outlets.
DEFROST
In this setting the system will operate the fan at a fixed high speed, and air will exit out the defroster openings. The A/C compressor and air inlet are automatically operated at this setting.
