Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
1986 ELECTRA & PARK AVE.
Troubleshooting
1. Check fuse 16 by checking glove box light.
2. Check fuse 6 by checking for cooling fan operation.
3. Check fuse 12 with fuse tester.
4. Check ELC compressor ground by operating power windows.
5. Check ELC height sensor ground by checking for fuel gauge operation.
6. If vehicle is low, or the computer runs continuously for a few minutes, check the air hoses for leaks or bad connections.

Diagnosis
See Fig. 27 for Symptom Chart. If the symptoms of a system do not match the ones in the chart, test all of the components in the system
1. Check that battery voltage is present at all the ORN wires in the ELC compressor assembly connector, and the ELC relay connector.
2. To test the actuator arm, raise the car and check that:
a. Link is attached to the height actuator ARM.
b. Wiring to the ELC height sensor is intact.
c. Connectors G400 and G401 are clean and tight.
d. Actuator arm height adjusting nut is tight.
3. To test compressor motor, remove the connector from the ELC relay and connect a fused jumper between the following terminals with ignition switch in the OFF position:
a. If the compressor runs, continue and test the vent solenoid.
b. If the compressor does not run, check the DK GRN and BLK wires for opens. Check that G100 is clean and tight.
c. If no wiring problem is found, remove the ELC compressor assembly for repair.
4. To test the exhaust solenoid, connect a fused jumper wire from the WHT wire on the ELC compressor assembly to ground. Leave the connector on the assembly and the ignition switch OFF:
a. If the solenoid valve does not open and close, remove the ELC compressor assembly and install a new exhaust solenoid.
b. If the solenoid operates and vents, and the actuator arm operates correctly, but the system does not vent to lower the car, install a new ELC height sensor.
5. To test the ELC relay, with the connector connected to the relay, connect a fused jumper from yellow (YEL) wire to ground. Leave the ignition switch OFF.
a. If the relay is good (compressor runs) and the actuator arm operates correctly, but the system does not turn on when the car is low, install a new ELC height sensor.
b. If relay does not operate, install a new ELC relay.
6. If the ``Car Is Leveling'' indicator will not light and the ELC system is operating normally, check the indicator bulb:
a. If bulb is good, put ignition in RUN. With a test lamp, back probe connector C2 terminal 5 if vehicle is equipped with indicators cluster, or connector C1 terminal 2 if vehicle is equipped with a digital cluster to body ground. If test lamp does not light, check PNK/BLK (39) wire and repair as necessary.
b. If test lamp does light, check YEL (321 wire) and ELC diode and repair as necessary.
