Bulletin 86-6-10A

Date May '86

Ref. No. 86-080A6
SUBJECT: BROKEN CAMSHAFT SENSOR INTERRUPTER

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986 CENTURYS, LESABRES, ELECTRAS & RIVIERAS EQUIPPED WITH 3.8L ENGINES (VIN CODES B OR 3)

NOTE: This bulletin supersedes bulletin 86-6-10 dated April, 86. Please discard 86-6-10 and replace it with this one.

If a repeat condition of a broken camshaft sensor interrupter occurs on the above engines, the camshaft should be removed and inspected. The camshaft should have a relief hole drilled completely through the rear camshaft bearing journal section of the shaft, parallel to the shafts center line.

If the relief hole is not drilled clear through the shaft, it can cause the camshaft to "walk" forward far enough to break the interrupter. There may or may not be indications of the camshaft hitting the back side of the timing chain cover when this occurs. If inspection of camshaft reveals this condition, finish drilling the oil relief hole through the camshaft and clean oil hole of shavings and reinstall camshaft.
