Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Technical Procedure

FIGURE 1 - CORRECT POWER STEERING PUMP RETURN HOSE ROUTING:

1. Open vehicle hood, cover front fenders and determine if power steering pump return hose is routed correctly. Return hose must be routed outboard and under engine wiring harness. Refer to Figure 1.

FIGURE 2 - INSTALLATION OF NEW POWER STEERING PUMP RETURN HOSE:

a. If hose was not routed correctly, replace the hose with Part Number 25529012. Refer to Figure 2 for proper installation of the new hose.

b. If hose was routed correctly, replacement is not required.

2. Check to be sure there is a minimum of 2-1/2 inches (63.5 mm) clearance between the engine wiring harness and the exhaust manifold. Refer to Figures 1 and 2. If required, position harness outboard and to the right. It may be necessary to strap the harness to the heater hoses to maintain this clearance.

3. If hose was replaced, fill and bleed power steering system, following procedure on Page 3B7-5 of the 1986 Buick Chassis Service Manual.
4. Install a Campaign Identification Label.

Each label provides a space to include the campaign number, the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service, and the date vehicle was campaigned. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen. When installing label, clean the surface of the radiator support, and apply the campaign label where it is readily visible.
DISPOSITION OF PARTS

Replaced parts must be held for disposition by Buick contact personnel. Parts must have a claim tag attached showing the repair order and the VIN of the vehicle from which they were removed.
