Some of the above 1986 models equipped with power door locks may experience a condition where the front door lock switch falls out of the door lock escutcheon. This condition is caused by inadequate retention of the switch to the escutcheon. To repair this condition, reassemble the switch and install two retaining clips onto the escutcheon, as shown in the illustrations. Two different type clips have been released to correct this condition. Retaining clips are available from GMWDD. Switches are no longer available under the old part number and have been superseded by new part numbers which include clips already installed. Before using old switches from dealership parts stock, be sure to install retaining clips. Clips should be added to both door lock switches even if only one is reported as separated. New switches are currently in short supply and should be ordered only if old switch cannot be reassembled. The following chart indicates part numbers and usage:
