Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators: Service and Repair
1984---87 REGAL
1. Disconnect ground cable from battery and speedometer cable from transmission or cruise control transducer.
2. Place gear selector lever in low and lower tilt wheel if equipped, then grasp left (cluster) trim bezel with both hands and pull bezel straight away from instrument panel.
3. Remove steering column lower cover, then disconnect shift indicator cable from steering column.
4. Remove 2 nuts securing column bracket, then lower steering column.
5. Remove 4 cluster retaining screws, then disconnect speedometer cable and any ``hard wired'' bulb sockets from cluster.
6. Pull cluster away from instrument panel just enough to gain access to Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), then remove screw securing VSS optic head to speedometer.
7. On models with digital cluster, release harness connector, then disconnect connector from cluster and remove screw securing cluster ground strap.
8. On all models, remove cluster.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
