Technical Procedure
ONLY THE LEFT-HANDED (DRIVER'S SIDE) SHOULDER BELT ANCHOR BOLT IS INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN PROCEDURE.A. Inspection
1. Remove guide loop cover, shoulder belt anchor bolt and guide loop (Figure 1).
2. Check for presence of a round threaded hole inside center pillar. Reinstall bolt and check that a torque of 35-48 N.m (26-35 lb. ft.) can be achieved.
3. If Step 2 is satisfactory - NO REPAIR NEEDED. Reassemble reverse of removal, torque bolt to specification above, and install a campaign identification label (Part C of procedure).
4. If inspection shows a slot with threads formed on the side walls of the slot - INSTALLATION OF REPAIR KIT WILL BE REQUIRED (Part B of procedure).
B. Repair Kit Installation Procedure
1. Remove or Disconnect
a. Roof panel opening rear garnish molding (Figure 2), lock pillar trim molding (Figure 3), and back window upper garnish molding (Figure 4).
b. Rear quarter upper trim panel (Figure 5). Compress seat back cushion to remove rear screw.
2. Enlarge left-hand shoulder belt anchor bolt hole using appropriate file. Do not attempt to drill out hole because damage may occur to body outer metal as bit drags through hole.
3. Using parts furnished in the 86-C-5 repair kit:
a. Install anchor plate reinforcement assembly (Figure 6) and secure with special washer arid new shoulder belt anchor bolt.
b. Drill two (2) 1/8" holes in pillar and reinforcement (Figure 6). Rivet anchor plate in place, using furnished pop rivets.
c. Tape, cement, or otherwise secure special washer in place and remove anchor bolt.
4. Reinstall trim, insert furnished bolt through belt guide loop, and install bolt, torquing to 35-48 N.m (26-35 lb. ft.).
5. Install belt guide loop cover and a Campaign Identification Label (Part C of Procedure).
CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL:
C. Campaign Identification Label Installation
Install a Campaign Identification Label. Each vehicle modified in accordance with the instructions outlined in this procedure will require a Campaign Identification Label. Each label provides a space to include the campaign number, the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service, and the date vehicle was campaigned. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen. When installing label, clean and dry the surface of the radiator upper mounting support and apply the campaign label where it is readily visible.
