Engine: Service and Repair
RIVIERA & TORONADO
1. Relieve fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Disconnect fuel pump electrical connector from fuel tank, then start engine.
b. After engine stalls, continue to crank for three seconds to ensure relief of any residual pressure.
c. Turn ignition off and reconnect fuel pump electrical connector.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
3. Mark position of hood hinges, disconnect necessary electrical connectors, then remove hood hinge bolts and the hood.
4. Disconnect radiator and air inlet hoses.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors from the following components: fuel rail, C3I ignition, ground straps, oil pressure sender, EGR solenoid, coolant temperature sensor, throttle body, crankshaft and camshaft position sensors, and the alternator.
6. Release harness from clips and secure aside.
7. Remove serpentine drive belt, power steering pump and alternator.
8. Disconnect heater hoses.
9. Remove throttle cable bracket and disconnect accelerator, cruise control and transaxle cables from throttle body.
10. Disconnect fuel supply and return lines from throttle body.
11. Remove engine cooling fan and radiator.
12. Remove front (left) exhaust manifold.
13. Disconnect necessary vacuum hoses, noting position for installation.
14. Remove 3 top engine to transaxle retaining bolts.
15. Remove engine damper and bracket from engine.
16. Remove ground strap and engine harness retainer bolts.
17. Remove engine to transaxle bracket, then raise and support vehicle.
18. Remove A/C compressor and secure aside.
19. Remove exhaust pipe.
20. Disconnect electrical connectors from starter motor.

21. Remove engine mount nuts, Figs. 3, 4 and 5.
22. Remove torque converter dust shield, scribe alignment mark between converter and flexplate and remove converter bolts.
23. Remove left front wheel and remaining engine to transaxle bolts. One bolt securing engine to transaxle is installed in opposite direction.
24. Remove engine to transaxle bracket, then lower vehicle.
25. Attach suitable lifting equipment to engine and support transaxle.
26. Raise engine, separate engine from transaxle and remove engine from vehicle.
27. Reverse procedure to install.
