Starter Motor: Service and Repair
If shims are used between starter and engine block, they should be placed in original position during installation. If starter is noisy during cranking, remove double .015 inch shim or add .015 inch shim at outer bolt only. If high pitched whine is observed after engine starts, add double .015 inch shims (to maximum of .045 inch) until noise is corrected.
RIVIERA & TORONADO
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove starter splash shield, if equipped.
3. Remove 2 bolts securing starter to engine block, then lower starter motor.
4. Remove retaining nuts and disconnect electrical connectors, noting position for installation.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
