A/T - 440T4 No 1-2 Shift After Rebuild

PROBLEM: No 1-2 shift after rebuild
SOLUTION:
Install transmission pressure gauge. The transmission fluid pressure should be normal (65-75 PSI) with the transmission in drive, engine at 1000 RPM.
If pressure is high, be certain vacuum modulator is receiving full engine vacuum, at idle.
The problem may be that the second clutch apply ring and spring return assembly is installed up-side-down.
With the apply ring and spring return assembly installed incorrectly, the second clutch will air check, but will not apply the second clutches.
See Figure 1 for correct installation of the second clutch apply ring and spring return assembly.
Figure 2 shows the incorrect installation of the second clutch apply ring and spring return assembly.
